About Wavefunction
Wavefunction
Wavefunction is a free, MIT-licensed open-source desktop coding agent for Mac. It emphasizes a minimal interface with the conversation at the center, and it lets users bring their own models: sign in with ChatGPT, use API keys from providers such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini, OpenRouter or Vercel AI Gateway, or run local models through Ollama, LM Studio or other OpenAI-compatible servers. It can split work across subagents in separate worktrees, accept steering messages while tasks run, and track token usage and reported costs. The page also describes a computer-use feature that runs in a local Docker container (requires Docker Desktop and an image-capable model), 70+ MCP connectors plus custom MCP servers, and support for AGENTS.md and SKILL.md instructions. Currently available only for macOS.
Key features
- Parallel subagents that split work across tasks, each in its own worktree when files may collide
- Steer running subagents with mid-task messages
- Fork or rewind chats from any message, including code and conversation
- Per-chat model selection with support for ChatGPT sign-in, API keys, and local models
- Local model inference or providers with zero data retention
- Computer use in an isolated local Docker container, with user takeover
- Usage tracking for tokens, cached input, and provider-reported costs
- MCP connectors: 70+ built-in plus any MCP server
- Reads AGENTS.md and loads SKILL.md skills from .agents, .codex and .opencode folders
- Built-in browser absent; links open in the default browser
